Downtown Columbia is an economic hub for the region. Corporate headquarters and new businesses are attracted to the amenities for their employees—a critical mass of retail, restaurants, and entertainment–as well as the ideal location in the Baltimore-Washington corridor. Columbia also has access to some of the best schools in the country for their employees’ families.

Development of the Merriweather District, a multi-building employment center, is underway near Merriweather Post Pavilion and Symphony Woods. It will be a vibrant, walkable, mixed-use environment including shops, restaurants, apartments, structured parking and parkland in addition to an important employment center for the region.

One Merriweather, a 220,000 SF building, opened as the home of MedStar Health’s new, expanded headquarters in January 2017. MedStar Health is the largest integrated healthcare delivery system in Maryland. The new building is located on the corner of Little Patuxent Parkway and Broken Land Parkway and will include a fitness center and upscale restaurant, in addition to an adjacent 1,200-space parking garage. One Merriweather was the first new office building in Downtown Columbia in 15 years.

Two Merriweather, an approximately 125,000 SF office building adjacent to One Merriweather, opened in November 2017 as the new headquarters of Pearson, an online and blended education company. Additional street level retail and a boardwalk over the bio retention pond offer additional amenities and outdoor spaces for the tenants of One and Two Merriweather.
